OOSH News – Week 3

OOSH NEWS – WEEK 3

Happy Friday everyone!!!!  We are sure that as much as we are, you are all looking forward to the weekend.  We have had soooooooo many kids off over the past week with coughs and colds. We hope you are all able to relax and recoup over the weekend and back on deck on Monday.

It’s hard to believe we are already at the end of week three, it won’t be long and we will be gearing up for Vacation Care again.  Thanks to your children and their enthusiasm for fun, we have already booked some fantastic incursions for the holidays.  Our programming is child led, so please encourage your kids to give us feedback on things they would like to see happening at OOSH.  They have the opportunity to write on the whiteboard doors, put their thoughts into the kids ideas box or just tell us.

We are hoping that we will be able to go on our long promised excursion to Billarong Reserve.  We have had to cancel three times because of the weather.  We will certainly be doing a dance to the Sun gods to grant us a dry,  sunny day, as the kids have been looking forward to this excursion for such a long time.

At the beginning of term we advised everyone that we would be donating all the leftover lost property from the holidays to charity.  We have taken all the school clothing down to “lost property” at the school.  We will keep the Vacation care clothing that has been left until next Wednesday, it will then go to the Red Cross.

We hope that some of you will join us next Monday evening at 6.30 for a quick Committee meeting.  We promise not to keep you long, we will definitely share a glass of wine and some nibbles.  Please let us know if you can attend so we are able to cater accordingly.

Please remember that you are always welcome to give us any feedback on the centre.  We are community run and can only give you the service you want if you communicate with us.

Thank you all for your continued support, we hope to see you next Monday.

Term 3 Newsletter

Once again we had a fantastic vacation care. The kids were amazing and other than a complete muck up with the local cinema, causing us to change our excursion day, the whole fortnight ran smoothly.

It was great to be able to implement some of their suggestions over the past term for activities to include.
Some of the things they specifically asked us to do:-

Rock climbing
Jewelry making
Dancing Genies
Weaving.

Sadly once again we were unable to go to Billarong Reserve for our long awaited BBQ and fun sport day. However we managed to have fun at OOSH. Thankfully the sun did end up coming out and we were able to play some super fun games, have our BBQ and toast some marshmallows over the fire.

Your children are already planning their next vacation care, so if they have any ideas of what they would like to do please encourage them to write it on our whiteboard/cupboard door.
You are always very welcome to come in and see what some of their thoughts are. Some are a little outrageous, however we aim to please them and modify them when we can.

Our first Parent meeting for this term will be held on Monday, August 8th, at OOSH at 6.30. We aim to keep these meetings pretty short as we appreciate that the reason we have our jobs is because you’re working. We understand that the last thing you feel like doing after bathing, homeworking and feeding is to come out to a meeting. We do need your support though and would love to see anyone interested in attending. We will bribe you with a glass of wine, some nibbles and a bit of lively banter. It’s very important for our parents to have a say in what goes on in our centre.

Could everyone please, please, please check lost property. All school clothing items including lunch boxes and water bottles have been taken to the lost property box at school
Everything else that appears to be left from the holidays is in the red container under the sign-in desk. We will keep everything for another week, after Friday the 28th everything will go to the charity bin.

As always, thank you all for your support and for having amazing kids who make our jobs easier.

Final Term 2 Newsletter

Hi everyone, this is our last newsletter for the term and a very short one.

We still have spots available for Vacation care, if you wish to make a booking for one of the exciting activities we have on offer, please head over to our website. We don’t accept email requests. Check out the program and get your confirmation form in. Also remember that Friday is your last chance to make any changes to your days. After that we will not accept any cancellations or modifications. Our policy regarding this is on the confirmation form signed by you when you register your days.

When you make your vacation care booking you will receive a confirmation immediately. If you don’t see it, check your spam folder. If you don’t find it please don’t worry because you can not book days that are not available.

Don’t forget our increase in fees from this vacation care and after school care next term.

Please take a look at our Facebook page to read about and see photos of the wonderful mural the children have created. This was brought about by their concern regarding the amount of rubbish created by humans and its effect on our environment. You are more than welcome to come into the centre and have a look at the children’s art works at any time.

Please note that on Thursday 30th June there is a teachers strike. OOSH will NOT be open.

Thanks everyone. We look forward to seeing you and your children during the holidays.

OOSH NEWS – WEEK 8

This week has been a busy one at OOSH.  We are all very excited about the upcoming school holidays and with so many activities to choose from we suggest you choose your favourite activities so you don’t miss out. The  program is up on our website along with the confirmation form for any days you require.  Please remember that once you have made your booking there are no swaps or cancellations for days chosen.   Please use the following link to secure your bookings:
https://avalonoosh.com.au/vacation-care/

This week at OOSH it’s all been about knitting.  The kids have moved on from French knitting to knitting with needles.  If your kids are interested in having a go, could you please send them in with some thick (12 ply) knitting wool and a pair of kids needles.  Both available from Spotlight or our local Variety shops.  If you have any wool or needles you would like to donate, we would be extremely grateful.  We have bought numerous pairs of needles and given them to the children on the proviso that they will be brought back.  However, children being children they have forgotten, so if you happen to find any under the bed, please drop them off.  We would greatly appreciate it.

Last week it was World Ocean Day.  To recognise the importance of caring for our ocean and surrounding environment the children decided to make a mural using “junk” and recycled materials. They have all enjoyed the activity so much that we will be continuing the theme until the end of the term.  You are more than welcome to come in to see what they have created.  We will have photos on our Facebook page and website when it’s completed.

Our next Parent meeting will be on Monday the 20th at 6.30.  Everyone is invited to attend and will be welcomed with open arms.  We are so happy to be able to have our parents visit our centre again after such a long time.   This is a great opportunity for you to come into the centre, see what we do and to provide any input regarding our program. We hope you will join us.  Please let us know if you will attend as we would like to share a snack and a glass of wine with you.

You may see a notification come through via Hubworks outlining a change to your booking agreement. This is in relation to our Vacation Care fee increase to $75 per day, as well as our After School Care fee increase to $25 per session. Your permanent days for term 2 will transition into term 3.  Let us know if you don’t require any of your existing spots as we have families on our wait list that would be grateful for any after school care we can offer.  If you are on our waiting list and have not yet secured a place, please contact us.

Thanks Everyone for your support, we hope to see you next Monday night.

Week Seven News

Not long now until the end of term, and hooray!!!!!  Vacation Care!!

Our program is on the website NOW, so head over and follow the link to secure your spot.

https://avalonoosh.com.au/vacation-care/

Please don’t reply to this email with your days. You need to complete the correct form with the excursion permission note.

We have some really exciting things happening for our Winter holidays.  On Wednesday the 13th our theme is “Around the World”.  We come from a wide and diverse community in Avalon and we are celebrating our diversity by having a day of sharing.  We hope that our families will share a favorite simple recipe from their culture or even better bring a plate for the children to share.  We are hoping to have a “Cultural Feast” to share at lunch or afternoon tea.

On the pupil free day we will be taking the children on a walking excursion to Avalon Cinema as a special end of holidays treat.

If, after looking at the program, you think of something we can incorporate on a specific day, please let us know.  We are always open to suggestions for making the holidays a special time for your kids.  Please don’t forget that when you sign your confirmation form you are agreeing to the terms and conditions.  We do not offer swaps or refunds for days not attended unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Our next Parent Evening will be on June 20th at 6.30.  All parents are welcome to attend.  Our parent representatives and staff will be here to meet you.  Please let us know if you will be attending for catering purposes.

We hope you all enjoy your long weekend.

Winter Newsletter

Hi Everyone, hope you are all surviving the cold snap.

We would like to remind everyone that although kids don’t seem to feel the cold, it is freezing at OOSH in the afternoon once the sun goes down.  We are encouraging the kids to put on jumpers or jackets after 4.30, however, a lot of children don’t have anything warm with them as they have come to school when the sun is shining, they are running about and the classroom is warmed. Can you please remind them to put a jumper in their bags.

We love the kids to be “free spirits”, and feel that running barefoot is great for their development and for when we are in Elouera.  However, we have had a lost shoe or two so please check the childrens shoes on pickup and perhaps write their names inside.

Avalon has a wonderfully diverse community and with our Vacation care program well under way, we are going to incorporate a cultural day.  We are going to have lunch with foods from the children’s culture to share.  We would love our families to bring a dish to share or a simple recipe for us to make with the children.

If you have any suggestions for our Educational Program here at Avalon OOSH, please feel free to complete our ideas form located on our website at the following link:
https://avalonoosh.com.au/make-an-activity-suggestion/

The program will be available online next Friday.  Don’t forget our Vacation care fees will be increasing to $75.00 daily.  This fee includes all activities and any excursions.
Our After School Care session fee will also increase in term three to $25.00 per Child (before Subsidy). If you have any questions or concerns regarding this, please contact us prior to the end of Term 2: info@avalonoosh.com.au

Thanks everyone for your continued support.
